What does /unix/ think of OpenIndiana and other Illumos based Unix systems? A credible Solaris-like alternative to Linux? Beats paying for Solaris I guess ┐(ﾟ～ﾟ)┌

most unix stuff i know has to be sysadmin stuff rather then desktop. sorry

Most people running this would be moving away from Solaris because Oracle is a: Oracle and b: is in full maintenance mode with Solaris, they aren't really pursuing customers with it anymore, they just want to continue to extract money from those who bought in 25 years ago lol
>>316 AFAIK Solaris was actually better than the Linux kernel and was a pretty innovative OS that gave us ZFS, DTrace etc. Oracle shutting down OpenSolaris pretty much killed the OS and now its slowly dying out. Real shame.
i really no nothing about unix then... i only been using unix like since 2021 and stuck with openbsd and arch
...I am now deeply tempted to see if my old Core 2 Duo desktop can run OpenIndiana.
